 Volumetric (Dimensional) Weight

The value and freight cost of a shipment may be influenced by the space it occupies rather than its physical weight.

Volumetric or dimensional weight is calculated and then compared with the actual (gross) weight of the shipment.
The higher of the two weights — either gross weight or volumetric weight — is considered chargeable weight for billing purposes.

This method ensures balanced freight pricing, especially for lightweight but bulky shipments.

Volumetric Weight Calculation Formula

✔ For Air Express & Air Cargo

(Length × Breadth × Height in centimeters) ÷ 6000

✔ For Surface Shipments

(Length × Breadth × Height in centimeters) ÷ 4750

✔ For International Shipments

(Length × Breadth × Height in centimeters) ÷ 5000

Special Condition – Priority Shipments

For R-Express, Air Express, and Air Cargo bookings under Priority category, if any single dimension of the parcel exceeds 110 cm, the chargeable weight will be calculated as:

2 times the higher of Gross Weight or Volumetric Weight

This is applicable as per railway authority regulations, where oversized consignments attract higher freight charges.
